2366 - Burr elm chest of drawers in 'mulberry' finish
2366
Burr elm chest of drawers of mid-18
th century style with antiqued ‘mulberry’ finish.
This special finish has been developed to emulate Mulberry Wood furniture of the early 1700s
and incorporates details such as uneven surfaces or cracked mouldings. For many years and
even today this furniture has been wrongly described and sold as mulberry wood. In fact, the
woods actually used were mostly burr elm, burr oak and burr maple and then finished in very
special way to achieve the startling ‘tortoiseshell’-type effect.
